BENGAL TOURNEY: Brown, Aggies sweep Legacy

Winning pitcher Ryan Brown threw four hitless innings in the nightcap to help Arbor View’s baseball team to an 18-3, 12-1 sweep of host Legacy in the Bengal Varsity Tournament on Saturday.

Brown struck out seven and combined with Shawn Martin and Bradon Stevens on a two-hitter.

Brady Borden doubled and had two RBIs for the Aggies. Parker McHale and Quinn Gallagher each drove in two runs for Arbor View.

In the opener, Sam Pastrone was 3-for-3 with a home run and four runs, and the Aggies scored in every inning except the third on their way to the win.

Jayce Gardner was 3-for-6 with a double, and Nick Quintana had a double and three RBIs for Arbor View, which scored 10 runs in the seventh inning. Ryan McHale homered and singled, and Justin Rivera had three hits for the Aggies. Gallagher and Wyatt Velasco each added two hits.

Legacy’s Austin Michals had three hits, and Daniel Zaragoza, Johnny Ball and Donta Williams had two hits apiece for the Longhorns.

Bonanza 5-10, Silverado 3-9 — At Bonanza, Jonathan Massey’s two-out single down the left field line plated Eric Schultz with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning of the second game as the Bengals swept the Skyhawks.

Bonanza, which led 5-0 after four innings and 8-4 after five, trailed 9-8 entering the bottom of the seventh, but got a one-out single from Danny Ruiz to start the rally.

Hunter Junge followed with a single, and after a force out at third base, Casey Ladeira delivered a game-tying RBI single to score Junge. Massey followed with his hit to left.

Massey was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs, and Ladeira went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Ruiz and Junge each had two hits for Bonanza, which got a solo home run from Spencer Faught.

Mitchell Ballard, Chase Cortez, Dillon Johnson and Alex Grafiada each had two hits for Silverado.

In the opener, Junge had two hits, including a double, and an RBI to lead the Bengals to the win.

Chris Dunn was 2-for-2, and Ladeira had two hits and an RBI for Bonanza, which also got two hits from Torren Brozovich.

Ruiz and Ryan Spencer combined on a four-hitter for the Bengals.

Shadow Ridge 2-12, Liberty 4-2 — At Shadow Ridge, Quinn Ayers went 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs in the nightcap as the Mustangs earned a split with the Patriots.

Trevin Reynolds was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for Shadow Ridge, which benefited from seven Liberty errors and ended the game in the fifth inning via the mercy rule.

Nick Rush went 2-for-2 with a home run for Liberty.

In the opener, the Patriots took advantage of a hit batsman, two walks and a wild pitch to score three runs in the fifth inning on their way to the win.

Trevor Mullaney had a two-run single in the fifth for Liberty.

Reynolds went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Shadow Ridge.

Foothill 5-3, Boulder City 6-0 — At Foothill, Ricky Kinney fired a two-hit shutout in the nightcap to help the Falcons split with the Eagles.

Kinney struck out six and walked two.

Alec Mathis was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Kaelii Maruyama was 2-for-2 for Foothill.

Austin Shepard was 2-for-2 with a double for Boulder City.

In the opener, Preston Van Diest was 3-for-3 with an RBI to help the Eagles edge the Falcons. Peyton Koopman went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Nolan Desantis was 2-for-4 for Boulder City.

Foothill’s Danny Hauck was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs.

Palo Verde 16-1, Faith Lutheran 0-2 — At Palo Verde, Tallon Thomason tossed a five-inning three-hitter in the opener as the Panthers split with the Crusaders.

Thomason struck out four and got plenty of offensive support.

J.D. Brooks was 3-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and two runs, and Will Hamilton went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and three RBIs for Palo Verde. Trevor Jackson and Jerron Largusa each went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Mitchell Rathbun added two doubles for Palo Verde.

In the nightcap, Zach Trageton tossed a four-hitter and struck out eight to lead Faith Lutheran.

Brandon Davis had two hits and scored one of the Crusaders’ two fourth-inning runs.

Zach Ortale was 2-for-3 with two stolen bases for Palo Verde.

Coronado 3-12, Spring Valley 9-1 — At Spring Valley, Donte Glover went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs in the second game as the Cougars split with the Grizzlies.

Hunter Jacobs doubled twice, and Jacen Yergensen was 2-for-4 with a double for Coronado, which also got a single and two RBIs from Zach Dunham.

Bryce Bullock went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Spring Valley.

In the opener, Nick Rupp was 4-for-4 with three RBIs to lift the Grizzlies to the win.

Jaxton Otis and Jake Sellinger each went 3-for-4, and Carter Lamberth was 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Spring Valley.

Anthony Olheiser was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Coronado.
