DIVISION I-A BASEBALL: Harman’s homer helps Cowboys top Warriors

Zach Harman hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to break a 2-2 tie and give Chaparral’s baseball team a 5-2 road win over Western in the Division I-A Southern Region tournament on Monday.

Mark Nick O’Connor pitched two scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit, to get the win.

Tommy Crone allowed two runs on two hits in five innings with seven strikeouts for Chaparral. Eduardo Jimenez hit a solo homer in the fourth to put the Cowboys up 2-0.

Western tied it in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run, two-out double by Ryan Garbowski, who went 2-for-4.

Chaparral (21-7) plays at Boulder City (20-7) in the winners’ bracket at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Western (11-18) hosts Cheyenne (7-18) in an elimination game, also at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Faith Lutheran 5, Tech 0 — At Faith Lutheran, Brandon Johnson struck out six batters and allowed just one hit over six innings as the Crusaders shut out the Roadrunners.

Tyler Trageton went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Faith Lutheran (22-8), which hosts Moapa Valley (16-8-1) at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Tech (12-9) plays at Pahrump Valley (14-15), also at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Moapa Valley 10, Pahrump Valley 2 — At Overton, Kasen Hughes went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs to help power the Pirates past the Trojans.

Josh Repp scored two runs and had two RBIs, and teammate Jared Repp went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for Moapa Valley, which used a four-run fourth inning to pull away.

Josh Repp went 6 2/3 innings, striking out seven en route to the win.

Boulder City 7, Cheyenne 2 — At Boulder City, Tanner Howell was 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the Eagles past the Desert Shields.

Peyton Koopman was 2-for-3 with a triple, a run and an RBI and allowed an unearned run on four hits in six innings to get the win.

Corbett Fleming was 2-for-4 with two runs for Boulder City.

Ramon Moreno went 2-for-4 with a run for Cheyenne.
