I-A BASEBALL: Boulder City uses three-run fourth to down Grizzlies

Boulder City’s baseball team rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning Wednesday to top visiting Spring Valley, 4-2, in the Division I-A Southern Region tournament.

Zach Murphy walked and scored on Seth Kermode’s RBI single to tie the game at 2-2. The Eagles added two unearned runs, one scoring on an error and the other on a sacrifice fly by Nolan Desantis.

Kermode went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Austin Wishard was 2-for-2 for Boulder City (23-9), which plays Faith Lutheran (26-6) in the winners’ bracket final at 4 p.m. Thursday at Sierra Vista.

Winning pitcher Steve Wagner allowed two runs on eight hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked three. Nick Giunta threw a scoreless seventh to get the save.

Jaxson Otis went 3-for-4 with a run to lead Spring Valley (17-13). Losing pitcher Bryce Bullock went the distance, allowing just one earned run on six hits. Bullock struck out five with two walks.

The Grizzlies face Tech (19-10-1) in an elimination game at 1 p.m. Thursday at Sierra Vista.

Faith Lutheran 3, Sierra Vista 1 — At Faith Lutheran, Zach Trageton threw a complete game and fanned eight with no walks to lead the Crusaders over the Mountain Lions.

Jake Koentopp provided a two-run single that scored Greg Sylvester and Brandon Davis to break a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning for Faith Lutheran.

Blake Giuliiani had an RBI single to plate Trageton with the tying run in the fourth inning for the Crusaders.

Sean Cutolo was 2-for-4 with an RBI single that scored Dylan White for Sierra Vista’s lone run. The Mountain Lions (14-17) will play Chaparral (20-9) in an elimination game at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sierra Vista.

Tech 7, Moapa Valley 1 — At Tech, Alexis Acosta threw seven solid innings, scattering six hits with seven strikeouts and no walks as the Roadrunners eliminated the Pirates (11-11).

Sebastian Fitzgerald went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Jayce Otis supplied two hits, two RBIs and a run for Tech, which got two hits and a run from Logan Campbell.

Dayton Wolfley had an RBI on a fielder’s choice to score Riley Longman for Moapa Valley’s sole run.

Chaparral 5, Pahrump Valley 2 — At Chaparral, Brandon Scott went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI to lead the Cowboys to the win over the Trojans.

Mark O’Connor picked up the win for Chaparral, scattering six hits over seven innings with nine strikeouts.

Eduardo Gonzalez had a two-run single, and Case Murphy hit a double for Pahrump, which finished (21-13-1).
