Western baseball forfeits remainder of season

Western’s baseball team has forfeited the remainder of its 2015 season, the school announced Monday.

In an email sent to the Clark County School District, Western athletic administrator Sherri Schrieber cited grade eligibility and low participation numbers as the reason the school was canceling the rest of its season.

The Warriors, who returned only one player from last year’s team and had just 12 players on their roster, lost their first seven games of the season by a combined score of 130-4. First-year head coach Jarion White was relieved of his duties before the team’s game against Canyon Springs on March 20.

Eligibility problems then crept in, forcing the Warriors to forfeit Sunset League games against Mojave, Cheyenne and Sierra Vista the last full week of March and back out of the Cowboy Classic tournament at Chaparral over Spring Break.

Western, which last won a varsity baseball game on April 21, 2014, was scheduled to host Desert Pines in a non-league game on Monday and still had nine league games remaining. All of those games will be forfeited.
