Nevada rubric point totals through winter sports season
The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association uses point totals from a rubric to determine classifications and leagues for its Southern Nevada schools in Division I and Division I-A.
Each school is assigned points in each sport based on its team's finish with football, girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball, baseball and softball being more heavily weighted. Football points also are doubled.
The current alignment was a result of a rubric completed using results from the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.
The 2012-2013 and 2013-14 school year will be used to determine schools' placement for the 2014-15 school year.
Included in the rules of the rubric is a provision that Division I schools earning a total of 14 or fewer points would move to Division I-A, and Division I-A schools earning 150 or more points would move to Division I. Schools do not cross regions, but could move from one league to another (for example, Northwest to Southwest) based on their end point total.
Nevadapreps.com will post the point totals after each sports season. Through two sports seasons, here are the rubric point totals and leagues to which schools would be assigned.
Division I-A leagues would remain unchanged as no school yet has met the point total to move to Division I, though two schools are on pace to meet or surpass 150 points. Also note that in each Division I region, more than one school is on pace to total 14 or fewer points.
* Durango and Shadow Ridge are tied. Their placement in the leagues is arbitrary at this point.
