Nixon, Cimarron top Centennial
Cimarron-Memorial's Stephen Nixon had a pair of second half touchdown runs and 159 rushing yards to lead the visting Spartans to a 37-0 road win over Centennial (2-3, 2-2 Northwest) on Friday.
Cimarron head coach Rod Vollan was not happy with his team’s first-half performance.
“Centennial was sharper off the ball and they dictated the course,” Vollan said.
Zach Barbara had a 65-yard fumble return in the first half, and James Carraway had two of his team’s three interceptions to lead a solid
Cimarron defense that shut down Centennial until the second half.
“I told them that football is not complicated,” Vollan said. “It’s body on body and having more energy than the other team.”
Nixon, who had a dominant second half, agreed with Vollan.
“We didn’t play as a team in the first half,” Nixon said. “If we play as a team, we’re real good.”
James Poole and Christian Brown each added a touchdown run in the second half for Cimarron (3-1, 3-1).
The Spartans dominated the ground game, outrushing Centennial 329-7.
“We are really solid defensivly,” Vollan added. “Week after week the asisstant coaches develop a great game plan for the defense.”
