Virgin Valley holds off Eagles
Virgin Valley (3-5, 1-0 Class 3A Southern) built a 15-0 halftime lead and survived late scare to nip visiting Boulder City (5-4, 0-2) on Friday.
The Eagles pulled to within 15-14 on Ross LaMarca’s 48-yard screen pass to Devin Combs with 1:28 to play, but pushed the conversion kick wide right, missing a chance to tie the game.
Virgin Valley recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock.
Richard Vidal had a 36-yard run for a score, and Humberto Urias hooked up with Daniel Gleave on a 54-yard scoring strike to give the Bulldogs their lead.
Preston Swasey caught a 13-yard pass from LaMarca in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 15-8.
Combs had 22 carries for 107 yards for Boulder City, which outgained the Bulldogs, 300-196.
