3A STATE: Bulldogs’ Baeza takes second place

Virgin Valley’s Ryan Baeza shot 1-over-par 73 on Tuesday at Hidden Valley Country Club in Reno to finish with a two-day total of 154, good for second place at the Class 3A boys state golf tournament.
Baeza shot 81 in Monday’s first round, but had a much better day on Tuesday.
Only two golfers, individual champion Matt Vanderbeek of Churchill County and his teammate, Tyler Schroder, posted rounds better than Baeza’s 73.
Vanderbeek shot 72 on both days of the tournament to win by 10 shots at 144.
Schroder, who shot 84 on Monday, carded a 72 on Tuesday to finish fifth at 156. He led the Greenwave to the team title with a two-day total of 799, 13 strokes ahead of second-place Lowry.
Virgin Valley was third at 846.
Moapa Valley’s Cody Kelly was the only other Southern Nevada golfer in the top 10. Kelly shot 78 on Tuesday to finish seventh at 157.
