Las Vegas-area schools haven’t dominated softball like they have other high school sports. Here’s a look at who has the most softball state titles.
Boulder City
The Faith Lutheran boys defeated Palo Verde to win their first state championship, and the Palo Verde girls rolled past Faith Lutheran to claim their sixth title.
Cooper Jarman had 29 assists and 13 digs on Monday to help Palo Verde’s boys volleyball team clinch the top seed for the Mountain Region playoffs with a 25-13, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22 win at Shadow Ridge.
Gannon Hymas went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and three RBIs on Monday to help Moapa Valley’s baseball team clinch the Class 3A Sunrise League title with a 10-6 win at Boulder City.
T.J. Blanchard-Davis had 18 kills, 12 digs, two aces and two blocks to help Mojave’s volleyball team to a 26-28, 25-21, 25-15, 25-18 win over visiting Del Sol on Friday.
Brizeida Mora-Herrera was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored Friday to lift Chaparral’s softball team to a 7-6 home win over Boulder City.
Braxton Bruschke allowed three hits and struck out 13 in 6⅔ innings on Friday to lift Spring Valley’s baseball team to a 3-1 win at Durango.
Boulder City boys basketball coach John Balistere called a timeout with 90 seconds left in the third quarter Tuesday to loudly implore his team to improve on defense.
Kendell Burrell scored 33 points Tuesday as Bonanza’s boys basketball team upset visiting Centennial, 73-64.
Skye Landaz hit a 3-pointer with less than 10 seconds to go in overtime to give Faith Lutheran’s girls basketball team a 51-49 road win over Palo Verde on Tuesday.
Aaliyah Medina completed 22 of 34 passes for 390 yards and six touchdowns on Tuesday to lead the Mountain Lions to a 46-25 road win over Durango.
Jeanette Fine scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Canyon Springs’ girls basketball team rolled to a 59-16 home win over Durango on Thursday night.
Alexander Spaight scored 25 points, and Canyon Springs’ boys basketball team used a 22-13 third quarter run to beat visiting Durango, 79-64, on Thursday night.
Claire Rawlins trailed Basic’s Raquel Chavez for much of the race, but stayed within striking distance to the end. She then raced past Chavez and held off Sierra Vista’s Sarriah Brown to win the 3.1-mile race in 19 minutes, 16 seconds.
Christian Vaughn ran for 122 yards and two touchdowns to lead Desert Oasis to a 21-12 home win over Boulder City.
