FIELDER’S CHOICES: Intrigue abounds on best week of season

This is my favorite week of the prep football season.

The Division I-A Southern Region playoffs begin, there are two league titles up for grabs, and all the games are Thursday because of Nevada Day.

Hannah Goddard had 22 kills and five aces Wednesday to help Arbor View’s girls volleyball team clinch its second consecutive Northwest League title with a 25-17, 25-14, 25-10 sweep of host Bonanza.

Aggies look to ‘corral’ Bulldogs’ attack

Some area football teams already have concluded their seasons, and others are playing games this week with little riding on the outcome.

But tonight at Arbor View, there will be plenty on the line.

Day brings Centennial softball bats to life

Centennial”s Stephanie Day started the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings with singles and scored both times in the Bulldogs” 5-1 win over Arbor View on Tuesday in a Northwest League game. Centennial moved into a first-place tie with the Aggies with one league game left.

NOTES: Gael plans to continue diabetes fight in college

After a record-breaking career at Bishop Gorman, punter and place-kicker Gage Wilson is headed for Lehigh. Wilson started a charity last year that raised money for diabetes research every time he made a kick and hopes to continue fighting the disease during his college career.

BASEBALL: Harris, Rattlers down Trojans in 10 innings

Liam Harris’ two-run single to right-center with two outs in the top of the 10th inning Tuesday broke a 7-7 tie and lifted Mojave’s baseball team to a 10-7 win at Pahrump Valley.
