Centennial jumped on Bishop Manogue from the outset and capped its season in style with a record-setting 97-52 victory in the Class 4A girls basketball state title game at Cox Pavilion.

3A GIRLS: Lowry’s hot 3-point shooting too much for Moapa Valley in semifinals

Lowry’s girls basketball team went 10-for-15 from 3-point range Friday on its way to a 61-42 win over Moapa Valley in a Class 3A state semifinal at Cox Pavilion. The Buckaroos advance to Saturday’s championship and will meet Churchill County, a 52-40 winner over Virgin Valley in the other semifinal.

Legacy 3-point binge makes scoreboard spin

Legacy’s girls basketball team made four 3-pointers in a two-minute span as part of a 16-0 run to pull away from host Shadow Ridge and eventually win 59-47.

Liberty girls quietly take aim at title

With the bulk of the attention paid to nationally ranked Centennial and Bishop Gorman, Liberty stealthly rolled to another strong season and earned a spot in the Division I state semifinals. The Patriots will face Bishop Manogue (21-1) at 6:20 p.m. Thursday at UNR’s Lawlor Events Center. Centennial (29-1) meets Reno (27-3) in the other semifinal at 3. The winners play for the state title at 6:10 p.m. Friday.

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association boys and girls state tournaments are in Reno this week, and I took a break from writing my book about the 2015 football season (“The Year of the Butt Punt”) to make the trip north and check out all the action.
