SUNRISE VOLLEYBALL: Foothill’s dominance of Liberty continues

Foothill’s girls volleyball team had swept Liberty the last six times the teams met prior to Tuesday’s region quarterfinal.

The outcome for match No. 7 was no different, but the Falcons weren’t able to cruise this time around.

FOOTBALL: Wolves’ defense shackles Skyhawks

Basic’s football team had its share of offensive heroes Friday night, but that’s not what coach Jeff Cahill wanted to talk about after the game. Instead, Cahill praised his defense, which gave up just 162 yards while forcing five turnovers to lead the sixth-ranked Wolves to a 35-21 home victory over Silverado.

Hannah Goddard had 10 kills and seven aces Thursday as Arbor View’s girls volleyball team swept visiting Cheyenne, 25-10, 25-14, 25-12.

TENNIS: Lacala, Del Sol boys edge Virgin Valley

Giovanni Lacala was 3-0 in singles Thursday, and Del Sol’s boys tennis team won four of the six tiebreaker games to pull out a 10-9 victory over Virgin Valley in Mesquite.

Rumusod, Patriots win Northeast League golf match

Shaena Rumusod took medalist honors with a 32-over-par 104 and led Liberty’s girls golf team to victory in a Northeast League match Thursday at Stallion Mountain.

Christof Glad scored in the first half, and Moises Medina tacked on a second-half goal Thursday as host Virgin Valley’s boys soccer team shocked defending Sunset Region champion Palo Verde, 2-0.
