Michaela Hood tossed a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts and hit the go-ahead, two-run double in the fourth inning Thursday to rally Spring Valley’s softball team to a 9-2 victory over Churchill County in the opening round of the Division I-A state tournament at Shadow Mountain in Sparks.

Keely Thompson doubled to left-center with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to plate Trinity Valentine with the winning run as the Durango softball team nipped visiting Arbor View 3-2 on Saturday.
Jonnette Paddy scored the eventual winning run on a bases-loaded squeeze bunt with no outs in the top of the eighth inning Thursday to lift Cheyenne’s softball team to a 4-3 win at Spring Valley.
Palo Verde’s softball team came up just short in its quest for a tournament championship Saturday.
