ROUNDUP: McCormick fans 17 to lead Panthers past Crusaders

Melissa McCormick tossed a three-hitter and struck out 17 on Tuesday as Palo Verde’s softball team opened Northwest League play with a 9-1 win over visiting Faith Lutheran.
McCormick, who allowed only two walks, was 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs for the Panthers.
Rachael Williams went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for Palo Verde, and Breanna Beatty hit 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Shadow Ridge 8, Cimarron-Memorial 1 — At Cimarron, Krislyn Campos went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and the Mustangs took advantage of five errors to stun the Spartans.
Sarah Murphy was 2-for-4 for Cimarron.
Cheyenne 32, Mojave 1 — At Mojave, Melanie Manley went 5-for-5 with a grand slam, two triples and seven RBIs as the Desert Shields routed the Rattlers in five innings.
Lindsey Galindo pitched a four-hitter with nine strikeouts for Cheyenne, which scored 12 runs in the first inning and 14 in the third.
Ashley Persico was 2-for-2 for Mojave.
Pahrump Valley 5, Bonanza 4 — At Pahrump, Petra Beighley had a triple and two RBIs to help the Trojans hold off a late rally by the Bengals.
Pahrump carried a 5-2 lead into the seventh before Bonanza scored twice and had runners at second and third with one out, but a strikeout and a ground out ended the game.
Clark 12, Spring Valley 3 — At Spring Valley, Julia Hagen tossed an eight-hitter with five strikeouts and went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored as the Chargers cruised past the Grizzlies.
Georgi DeLio doubled twice and had two RBIs and a run scored for Spring Valley.
Desert Oasis 12, Western 0 — At Western, C.J. Wilson tossed a one-hitter, and teammate Lenzi Cram went 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and two runs as the Diamondbacks blanked the Warriors in five innings.
Dayana Gage added two hits and two runs for Desert Oasis.
Tech 2, Chaparral 1 — At Chaparral, Amanda Roark threw a three-hitter to lead the Roadrunners past the Cowboys.
Jamison Bascom walked and scored on an error in the top of the sixth to break a 1-1 tie.
Bascom was 2-for-2, and Sabrina Sawyer went 2-for-3 for the Roadrunners.
Valerie Talamantez doubled and scored the only run for Chaparral in the bottom of the fifth.
Arbor View 12, Rancho 0 — At Rancho, Chelsa Baca tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out six as the Aggies downed the Rams in five innings.
Karli Lehr went 4-for-4 with a double, and Nichole Diaz was 3-for-4 with a triple and a double for Arbor View.
Coronado 12, Moapa Valley 2 — At Coronado, Katie Dawson went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Morgan Yuhas had a triple and three RBIs to lead the Cougars past the Pirates in five innings.
Coronado scored six runs in the second inning to take an 8-0 lead.
Virgin Valley 10, Sunrise Mountain 6 — At Mesquite, the Bulldogs scored three runs in the second and three in the third to take control.
Imani Kroon and Shannon Cyphert each had two hits for Sunrise Mountain.
Centennial (Ore.) 13, Foothill 6 — At Foothill, Bailey Ritschart went 4-for-4 for with two doubles and four RBIs to lead Centennial past Foothill.
Hanna Russo went 3-for-3 for the Falcons, who committed five of their nine errors in the first inning.
Aricia Dami was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI for Foothill.

Calvary Chapel 10, Pahranagat Valley 7 — At Alamo, Jamie Schmidt struck out seven, and the Lions scored in every inning except the third on their way to a win over the Panthers.
Samantha Mann homered for the Lions.
Kyla Mortensen and Alyssa Stirling each homered for Pahranagat Valley.
