SOFTBALL: Carosone’s homer gives Rams tournament title

Gianna Carosone homered in the bottom of the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie and lift Rancho’s softball team to a 2-1 win over Faith Lutheran in the championship game of the Colorado River Invitational in Needles, Calif., on Saturday.

Samantha Pochop tossed a four-hitter and struck out 13 for the Rams, who went 7-0 in the tournament and allowed a total of four runs.

Pochop’s RBI single in the bottom of the second inning gave Rancho a 1-0 lead.

Makena Martin’s two-out triple in the top of the third brought in Vanessa Valdez with the tying run for the Crusaders.

Centennial 2, Cactus (Ariz.) 1 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Jaden Tate singled up the middle with one out in the bottom of the seventh to score Angel Love and give the Bulldogs the win in the Tournament of Champions.

Love started the rally with a one-out single. Skyler Ball bunted and reached on an error, and Christina Cerrone was intentionally walked to bring up Tate.

Maddie Jones went the distance, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out five.

Centennial 3, Kofa (Ariz.) 1 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Cheyenne Cudahy threw a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks to lead the Bulldogs to the win in the Tournament of Champions.

Sonja Lawrence was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, and Tate went 3-for-3 for Centennial.

Millikan (Calif.) 10, Coronado 2 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., the Rams belted three home runs in a five-inning victory over the Cougars in the Tournament of Champions.

Jillian James went 2-for-2 for Coronado.

California (Calif.) 8, Coronado 5 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., the Condors scored four unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to erase a 4-0 deficit and went on to top the Cougars in the Tournament of Champions.

Sarah Pinkston was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, and Marissa Kopp went 3-for-3 with two runs for Coronado.

Silverado 5, Box Elder (Utah) 4 — At St. George, Utah, Korina Pindel’s one-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning plated Madison Sisco with the winning run as the Skyhawks topped the Bees in six innings in the March Warm-Up.

Sisco doubled to lead off the bottom of the sixth and moved to third on winning pitcher Gabby Santiago’s sacrifice.

Sarah Ford was 3-for-4 with a double, and Karissa Jones went 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Silverado. Sisco was 2-for-3, and Pindel finished 2-for-4 for the Skyhawks.

Coconino (Ariz.) 10, Silverado 9 — At St. George, Utah, Savannah Livingston doubled home the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh as the Panthers nipped the Skyhawks in the March Warm-Up.

Alena Ohumukini was 4-for-4 with a home run and a double for Coconino, which scored twice in the bottom of the seventh.

Pindel was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs, and Heaven Calhoun went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs for Silverado. Taryn Southerland went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Skyhawks.
