Top athletes: Jasper Gray (Sr.), Bria Buchanan (So.), Jomea Lopez-Bobbitt (Sr.), Jasmine Spurlock (Jr.)

Outlook: The Desert Shields welcome back a state champion in the 400 in Gray.

Buchanan and Lopez-Bobbitt both ran on the state-qualifying 800 relay team, and Spurlock went to state in the long jump.

"Our strength will be in the sprints and relays," Thrasher said. "We return all but two girls from a team that finished fourth in the Sunset Region meet."
