27-year-old California man drowns in Colorado River

A California man drowned in the Colorado River at Bullhead City, Ariz., on Saturday.

Bullhead City police spokeswoman Emily Montague identified the victim as Juan Rodriguez Alvarez, 27, of Long Beach.

Montague said authorities were notified at 2:15 p.m. when Alvarez slipped under the water after wading along the shore. She said Alvarez had been underwater for 10 to 15 minutes before he was pulled to the surface by lifeguards.

Alvarez was pronounced dead at Western Arizona Regional Medical Center in Bullhead City.

Montague said Alvarez had possibly been drinking and that his death is under investigation.
