Angle’s recent contributions nearly match Reid’s but he still has more money

Republican Sharron Angle raised $2.3 million during the most recent fundraising quarter, nearly matching the $2.4 million U.S. Sen. Harry Reid reported, the two Senate campaigns said Thursday.

Reid still has far more cash on hand than Angle -- about $9 million compared with nearly $1.8 million -- as of June 30 with the Democratic incumbent raising record contributions to defend his seat.

Nearly all of Angle's donations have come from individual contributions from Nevada and around the country, or more than $2.2 million, according to her campaign spokesman Jerry Stacy.

"It's been coming in faster than we expected," Stacy said of the fundraising effort, adding the outpouring of financial support shows Angle will be able to compete with Reid through the general election on Nov. 2. "Obviously, Sharron Angle is having no trouble raising money."

Earlier in the week, a member of Angle's campaign said he didn't think the Republican would be able to reach a $1.4 million goal, but the report to the Federal Election Commission far surpassed that.

Reid has raised a total of $19.2 million so far during this election cycle, his campaign said. Previously, Reid had set a goal of raising a total of $25 million through November.

"We are extraordinarily grateful for the deep and widespread support this campaign and Senator Reid are receiving as we move into the final months of the campaign," Reid campaign spokesman Kelly Steele said in a statement.
