Another Republican to enter U.S. Senate race today
Another Republican is seeking support for a U.S. Senate campaign. Reno attorney Chuck Kozak is touring the state today to formally announce his candidacy for the seat held by Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev.
Kozak is part of an ever-growing field of Republicans seeking the nomination to challenge Reid in 2010.
Kozak's Web site describes him as a "family man, veteran, volunteer, outdoorsman and a widely respected attorney." It does not outline his views on the issues.
The list of declared candidates and people considering candidacy includes Danny Tarkanian, Sue Lowden, Sharron Angle, Mark Amodei, John Chachas, Mike Wiley, Bill Parson and Robin Titus.
Ed Hamilton has announced he will challenge Reid from the Democratic side. Hamilton's Web site quotes former Sen. Pat McCarran's opposition to "neo-socialists and communists who are now actively tryng (sic) to take over America"
Kozak's most noteworthy public accomplishment is his role as an attorney arguing on behalf of people with hemophilia who contracted HIV through tainted products, an issue that affected tens of thousands of people globally. It was featured in a 1996 report on "60 Minutes."
Kozak's Las Vegas press event is at 4:30 p.m. at 6770 Redwood St.
