RENO -- Vice President Joe Biden cut short his speech at a Reno high school Thursday afternoon as a wildfire flared up nearby.
Aides summoned Biden from the stage 25 minutes into his speech about college costs at Galena High School. He told the audience he would have to move onto a question-and-answer time before officials had him leave the room.
The fast-moving brush fire has burned at least two homes as it moves through a valley near Reno. Many more homes in the area are threatened, and the Nevada Highway Patrol says evacuations are under way.
Bad weather already had delayed Biden more than two hours before he arrived at the school en route from San Francisco. He was diverted to Fallon, 60 miles away, before coming to Reno.
