‘Breaking Bad’: Local Fox anchor ripped for comparing multiple shooting to show

NEW YORK - Philadelphia news anchor Joyce Evans jumped on the “Breaking Bad” train in the clumsiest way possible this weekend when she referenced the show to tweet about six people getting shot - and of course tell viewers to tune in for details.

“Thought “Breaking Bad” was hot last Sunday? @FOX29Philly See who’s breakin’ bad in SW Philly leavin’ 6 people SHOT - Tonite at Ten!” tweeted the Fox 29 anchor.

A 23-year-old man died in the West Philadelphia shooting Sunday. The responses to Evans were immediate: “These are people LIVES you freaking idiot” went one typical critique.

Evans, who has more than three decades of experience in TV news, tweeted variations on the same defense to several people.

“Last tweet NOT AT ALL A JOKE,” Evans wrote. “Very real life drama was the point as oppose to one that end on tv. That was my point.”

Not that “Breaking Bad” had a particularly happy ending, either.

Fox 29 did not immediately respond to a call for comment Monday.
