U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood announced today that the California High Speed Rail corridor has been extended to include Las Vegas.

The designation could help the two competing rail projects — the privately run DesertXpress and publicly funded California Super Speed Maglev train — apply for funding or loans.

Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin said Saturday that Brazilian exported goods to the U.S. including coffee, beef and tropical fruits would still be tariffed 40%, despite President Donald Trump’s decision to remove some import taxes.

The proposal followed the funding lapse in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, during the federal government shutdown. Senate Democrats said they wanted to create a similar system run by the state in case of future funding lapses.
