Couple accused of embezzling $500,000 from Reno company

RENO - Reno police say a couple has been arrested on suspicion of embezzling over $500,000 from the wife's employer.

Police say 37-year-old Heather Denning, and her 40-year-old husband, Eric Denning, were arrested Thursday on charges of embezzlement, money laundering and theft.

Investigators say an internal audit by the Reno software and technology company Quadrant Information Services found one of its managers may have embezzled more than $500,000.

Heather Denning, who was fired in May, is accused of writing bogus company checks to her husband and others.

Police Sgt. Dave Macaulay told the Reno Gazette-Journal that it's uncertain where the money went as the couple did not appear to be making expensive purchases.

He says there's no known gambling or drug habit involved in the case.
