A federal Bureau of Land Management official says firefighters are battling a remote wildfire in a rugged 12.5-square-mile area 20 miles south of Caliente in Lincoln County.
BLM spokesman Chris Hanefeld in Ely said Wednesday that about 180 firefighters and support personnel are battling the Vigo fire in and outside the Meadow Valley Wilderness.
No injuries are reported and no structures or homes are threatened.
The fire was sparked by lightning Monday and spread to about 8,000 acres of pinion, juniper, brush and grass in the Kane Springs area, about 100 miles northeast of Las Vegas.
Volunteer firefighters from nearby Panaca are joining fire crews from the BLM, the Nevada Division of Forestry, the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the U.S. Forest Service.
