Democratic VP candidate Kaine to make 2 Las Vegas campaign stops Monday

In his first visit to Nevada since being named Democratic vice presidential nominee, U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine will make two campaign stops Monday in Las Vegas.

Beginning at 10:15 a.m. the Virginia senator will address 780 delegates at the Iron Workers 43rd international convention at The Mirage.

Later, Kaine will hold a rally that’s open to the public at Local 525 Plumbers &Pipefitters Training Center, 750 Legion Way, Las Vegas. Doors open to the public at 9 a.m. and Kaine is scheduled to speak at 11:30 a.m.

During his first address, Kaine will highlight Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s policies aimed at helping working Americans. The Iron Workers, a union representing workers in the construction and steel fabrication industry, were early endorsers of Clinton.

His speech will concentrate on Clinton’s record and proposals in contrast with those of her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, according to a news release from the campaign. The Iron Workers convention is significant for Kaine and his family as his father owned an iron-working shop in Kansas City where he employed union members.

“We tirelessly worked throughout the primary to help Hillary win the nomination, and are pleased that Sen. Kaine agreed to speak to our delegates and share their vision for our country and our union,” Iron Workers General President Eric Dean said in a statement.

Clinton spoke to about 1,400 people earlier this month at a rally at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) local 357.
