A 32-year-old man died early today when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a light pole near the Suncoast Hotel and Casino on South Rampart Boulevard, Las Vegas police said.

The collision occurred about 2 a.m. when the Las Vegas man, driving a 1965 Ford Mustang, turned north onto Rampart Boulevard from the Suncoast, hit the curb and slid across three lanes of traffic before striking a light pole.

The man was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was not identified by Las Vegas police this morning.

The crash, which is the 16th traffic-related fatality this year, is still under investigation.
