The University of Nevada, Las Vegas' campus radio station, KUNV 91.5 FM, plans to celebrate its 30th anniversary Friday at Greenspun Hall, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.
The station's radio personalities and UNLV journalism staff will be on hand to meet with the public and give tours of the campus' TV and radio studios.
Attendees also can participate in "Two Cents," an audio or video recording of life in Las Vegas that may be used for future KUNV programming.

The UNLV Center for Individual, Couple and Family Counseling is offering confidential therapy sessions Mondays through Thursdays by appointment.

Las Vegas High School to present 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'
Students from Las Vegas High School, 6500 E. Sahara Ave., plan to perform "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" at 7 p.m. April 7-9, with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. April 9.
Based on the book by Roald Dahl, the play follows five children as they enter the greatest chocolate factory in the world and meet its proprietor, the eccentric Willy Wonka.

CSN Cheyenne campus to host
science and tech expo
The College of Southern Nevada Foundation is sponsoring the eighth annual Science and Technology Expo from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 8 at the June Whitley Student Center at the CSN Cheyenne c ampus, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave.
The event will feature demonstrations and exhibits, produced by students, to promote CSN's science and technology programs. The expo is free and open to the public.

St. Joseph Catholic School seventh-grader Jonathan Mersch won first place March 11 at the All Catholic School Geography Bee at St. Francis D e Sales Catholic School, 1111 N. Michael Way.
The bee tested seventh- and eighth-graders from seven local Catholic schools in general geography trivia.

Students at 22 elementary schools read nearly 1.3 million pages during Nevada Reading Week as part of the annual Pennies for Pages Read-a-Thon.
The reading challenge is part of the Kids to Kids program sponsored by Spread the Word Nevada, a children's literacy nonprofit group.

Children's literacy advocate group receives $100,000 grant
The children's literacy nonprofit group Spread the Word Nevada has recei ved a $100,000 grant from Los Angeles-based Windsong Trust.
The grant coincides with Spread the Word Nevada's 10-year anniversary and will allow the expansion of book distributions and literacy programs that have helped more than 187,000 low-income students in the Las Vegas Valley.
Tuition grants available for medical assistants and phlebotomists
The Medical Skills for Life Institute is offering $2,000 and $500 tuition grants through April 8 for students interested in becoming medical assistants or phlebotomists.

Scholarships available for students
of Norwegian descent
The Sons of Norway's Vegas Viking Lodge is accepting applications for scholarships for high school seniors of Norwegian descent.
Last year's scholarships ranged from $250 to $750. Scholarships are determined by grades, financial need, extracurricular activities and the application essay.

UNLV seeks kids with cerebral palsy
for new therapy study
UNLV's departments of physical therapy and kinesiology are seeking children 6 to 17 with cerebral palsy for participation in a study.
The study will test the effectiveness of a new therapeutic treatment program designed to improve functional mobility.
Sessions last about two hours and will take place at UNLV, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway. Participants will undergo therapy and participate in walking and range of motion tests before and after treatment.

Inaugural science festival
coming in may
The inaugural Las Vegas Science Festival is seeking participants for the event, which is scheduled for May 1-7 at various Las Vegas Valley locations.
A Rubik's Cube competition is scheduled as part of the event. Teams of eight students will attempt to solve 25 cubes. The school that solves the cubes in the shortest time will win up to $750 to be donated to their school.
The festival plans to celebrate science, technology, engineering and math with speakers and exhibitions.
Applied, natural and health sciences organizations are encouraged to contribute as educators, hosts, volunteers or sponsors.

High schools hosting flu clinics
The Southern Nevada Health District is offering weekly flu clinics at Chaparral High School, 3850 Annie Oakley Drive; Durango High School, 7100 W. Dewey Drive; Silverado High School, 1650 Silver Hawk Ave.; Desert Pines High School, 3800 Harris Ave.; and Mojave High School, 5302 Goldfield St.
Clinics are scheduled from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Flu shots and other immunizations are available at the health district's public health center, 625 Shadow Lane, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

offers scholarships
The Cultural Diversity Foundation is offering college scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $2,500.
Students must be Clark County residents, maintain a 3.0 GPA and show financial need.
