Escapee from Pahrump jail recaptured in Las Vegas

A 22-year-old man who walked away from the Pahrump jail in January was recaptured Thursday, the Nye County Sheriff's Department said.
Johnathon Charles Deshaw, who had completed about one-third of his jail sentence on a misdemeanor stolen property charge when he walked away from the outdated facility, was apprehended in Las Vegas, the Sheriff's Department said.
After Deshaw's escape , a no-bail warrant for his arrest was transmitted to law enforcement agencies nationwide. He faces a felony escape charge, the department said.
Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo said the incident highlighted the need for a new jail in the town of about 40,000 residents located 60 miles west of Las Vegas. The jail is made of modular buildings that were brought to Pahrump in 1988 after the structures were condemned in Colorado, he said.
Plans are in the works for a new jail.
