A 44-year-old Nipton, Calif., man was killed Friday morning after his car overturned on State Route 164, one mile east of the Nevada-California border.
The man, whose name was not released, was traveling west about 8:40 a.m. on the highway, about 18 miles west of Searchlight, when the tread on the left rear tire of his 2007 Chrysler separated, according to Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Kevin Honea.
The man lost control of the car and it drifted through the median and across the eastbound traffic lane and into the dirt shoulder.
He then steered sharply to the right, crossing both directions of traffic and driving into the dirt shoulder on the north side of the highway.
He then steered sharply to the left, and his car overturned, according to Honea. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
