Javier Calvo has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

Calvo is the son of Erika Serracin and Bernard McCaw, both of Las Vegas.

Elijah Mitchell has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

A 2012 graduate of Green Valley High School, Mitchell is the son of Serena Hill of Henderson and grandson of Beverly White of Fairfield, Calif.

Bret Favero has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

Favero is a 2005 graduate of Coronado High School in Henderson.

Shaun Topper has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

A 2012 graduate of Del Sol High School, Topper is the son of Stephen Topper of Las Vegas.

Marsalis Brown has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

A 2013 graduate of Desert Rose High School, Brown is the son of CeCelia Lang of San Angelo, Texas, and cousin of Marcia Lang of North Las Vegas.

Jazmine Eshleman has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

A 2012 graduate of Canyon Springs High School, Eshleman is the daughter of Chunchira Eshleman and Cory Eshleman, both of North Las Vegas.

Nate Starlin, 17, received the September Student of the Month award from the Las Vegas Summerlin Lions Club.

The award is given to students with outstanding citizenship qualities.

Starlin, a student at Cimarron-Memorial High School, is the son of Herb and Lisa Starlin of Las Vegas.

The National Achievement Scholarship Program, a privately financed academic competition operating without government assistance, recognizes academically promising black students and provides scholarships to the most outstanding program participants.

The following students have been named semifinalists for the 2014 competition: Ishmael King, Faith Lutheran Middle School and High School; Karis Addo-Quaye, Bishop Gorman High School; Mikiala Booker-McKillop and Mary Tatlock, Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts; Melaney Mayes, The Meadows School; Jasmine Chappell, Northwest Career and Technical Academy; Angele Bruce, Palo Verde High School; Solomon Leatherwood, Rancho High School; and Ameyo Attila and Diondra Dilworth, Valley High School.

Summer Holloway of Henderson has been named to the dean’s list at Simpson University in Redding, Calif., for the spring 2013 semester.

Holloway is majoring in biology.

Paul Gentle II of Las Vegas has graduated from Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Leader’s Training Course at Fort Knox in Kentucky.

Hannah Cava and Taylor Laws, who are students at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Ind., are spending the fall 2013 semester studying at Harlaxton College, the University of Evansville’s British campus near Grantham, England.

Cava and Laws, both of Las Vegas, are theater majors.

Jesus Duran, an Army staff sergeant, has reported for duty as an Army recruiter assigned to the Phoenix Recruiting Battalion in Glendale, Ariz.

Duran has served in the military for six years.

A 2006 graduate of Rancho High School, Duran is the son of Georgina Lewis of Yuma, Ariz.
