FedEx truck catches fire after crash

A fiery crash involving a FedEx delivery truck and a pickup shut down part of Eastern Avenue Tuesday night.

Police responded to the scene near Eastern and Oquendo Road, which is just south of Russell Road, about 9:30 p.m. after a pickup slammed into the side a FedEx truck, causing the delivery truck to catch fire.

The driver of the pickup, who suffered minor head lacerations, tried to flee the scene but was caught by a traffic officer and was being detained while police investigate the scene, according to Lt. Mark Reddon.

The FedEx truck driver escaped without injury, Reddon said.

The northbound lanes of Eastern near Oquendo are closed while police investigate and clean up the crash.
