Findlay RV Service Manager Kurt Milana decided in March 2010 that it was time for a change of scenery.
Milana, who was 44 at the time, had lived in Las Vegas for 41 years. He escaped to Hawaii for the storybook lifestyle that many dream about.
But he came back.
“I’m glad to be back in Vegas,” Milana said recently from the dealership at 4530 Boulder Highway. “This city is situated in a great central location with so many things to do, whereas you can easily get island fever in Hawaii.”
Milana was able to rejoin Findlay RV, where he had worked before heading to Hawaii.
“In my case, I got to go home and get my job back at the same time,” said Milana, who was a service manager for a Nissan dealership in Oahu. “Working in the RV business is both rewarding and enjoyable.”
Not just anyone can work on their motor home or travel trailer.
“In order to work on an RV, there is a special talent,” Milana said. “Technicians need to be familiar with so many elements, ranging from electrical to mechanical and satellite along with electronics. We’re here for those people when they need our help.”
Milana said the RV business is constantly changing, requiring technicians to study continually to keep up with the business.
“Technicians must be familiar with 110- and 12-volt electrical and even plumbing,” he said. “The good technicians are unsung heroes, for sure.
“No doubt about it,” he added. “We have a great crew.”
