Firefighters battle another blaze at downtown commercial building

A blaze Wednesday that damaged an upholstery shop at a commercial building in downtown Las Vegas may have started outside and spread inside, a fire official said.

No injuries were reported after the 2:30 p.m. fire at a building on Main Street, south of Charleston Boulevard.

The fire sent smoke over an area where an NV Energy electrical substation exploded early Sunday and the Opportunity Village Thrift Store burned about 12 hours later while utility crews were checking nearby for underground gas line leaks.

Those fires are still under investigation.

Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski said that Wednesday's fire was several blocks away and that it was too early to say exactly what caused it.
