Firefighters save puppies in blaze that displaces 12 people

North Las Vegas firefighters revived two puppies at a house fire Tuesday morning that displaced twelve people.

Firefighters responded to a single-family, one-story house located in the 2000 block of Englestad Street, near Lake Mead Boulevard and Revere Street, about 8:30 a.m. to a house full of heavy smoke and flames.

Crews extinguished the fire inside the home in about 20 minutes, fire officials said.

While searching the house, firefighters found two unresponsive puppies. Crews performed CPR, eventually reviving the young canines, much to the delight of onlookers who applauded the crews efforts. Officials said the puppies were seen running around while crews took care of the remnants of the fire.

Officials said the cause of the blaze was an accidental kitchen fire. Six adults and six children were displaced.

The house was a complete loss due to severe smoke and flame damage. Officials estimated the damage at $185,000.
