Former Chamber chairman tapped by governor for post

Former Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Chairman Steve Hill was named Wednesday by Gov. Brian Sandoval to serve as interim executive director of the new state Office of Economic Development.

Hill will assume the position on Oct. 3. His agency will coordinate state efforts to induce businesses to locate in Nevada and create more jobs for unemployed residents.

Now senior vice president at CalPortland, a concrete and gravel supplier in Las Vegas, Hill also has been serving as chairman of the Economic Development Policy Committee and advised the governor and legislators on economic matters during the 2011 legislative session.

Sandoval also announced that Terri Janison, his director of community relations and a former Clark County School Board president, will work with Hill as regional director. She will be responsible for outreach, business relationships and work-force development.
