Gibbons urges Berkley to vote no on health reform

CARSON CITY -- Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons says health care reform should be left to states to enact based on their particular needs and circumstances.

In a letter Wednesday to Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley of Las Vegas, the Republican governor said federal health care overhaul being considered by Congress will severely impact Nevada's budget by increasing Medicaid costs.

Gibbons says imposing a health care plan that doesn't consider the state's current economic turmoil would be irresponsible.

He urged Berkley to vote against the measure, saying Nevada can't afford it.
