Henderson hosts Polar Bear Plunge this weekend

Those who wish to experience the frigid water of the Henderson Multigenerational Activity Pool are invited to the city's second annual Polar Bear Plunge from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Participants will ride down the slides of the outdoor pool and plunge into the cold water below.

The event, at 250 S. Green Valley Parkway, also will include warm winter treats and a bounce house. Admission for participants and spectators is $5 a person.

"We had 70 brave people take part in last year's inaugural event and are expecting a strong turnout again in 2013," Mayor Andy Hafen said in a statement. "The water is very chilly in February, so participants can expect an exhilarating slide and a bracing plunge into the pool. It will be a memorable experience."

To register, go to http://www.cityofhenderson.com/parks (activity code 136502-00) or any of the city's recreation centers. For more information, call 702-267-5824.
