Hiker injured after falling 40 feet at Red Rock Canyon

A hiker in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is in serious condition after falling 40 feet, according to the Las Vegas Fire Department.

Paramedics responded to the call around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The hiker was originally strapped to a rope and fell off.

Firefighters were able to get there “very fast” and had to walk “quite a way” to find the hiker, said Las Vegas Fire spokesman Tim Szymanski.

They retrieved the hiker by foot and a helicopter waiting in the parking lot by the Scenic Loop transported the hiker to University Medical Center.
