Hostage situation ends as Las Vegas police arrest California homicide suspect

A California homicide suspect who held a woman and a child hostage in a southeast valley apartment was arrested early Tuesday morning after a lengthy standoff with Las Vegas police.

The suspect, who police would not identify, barricaded himself inside an apartment at the Camden Pointe Apartments, near Tropicana Avenue and Mountain Vista Street, about 6:30 p.m. Monday, according to Las Vegas police.

SWAT negotiated with the man for more than six hours. The standoff came to an end about 1 a.m. Tuesday after the suspect came out of the apartment without incident and was taken into custody, police said.

The woman and child were not injured, police said.

Police evacuated the apartment complex while SWAT officers negotiated with the suspect.
