LV scooter driver dies after collision with car
A Las Vegas man on a Vespa scooter died after a crash early Sunday on Durango Drive, near University Avenue.
Las Vegas police said the 30-year-old man, who was not identified, suddenly crossed three lanes and the center line. He was struck by an oncoming 2008 Chevy Malibu at 2:47 a.m.
The scooter rider was transported to Spring Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The collision remains under investigation. It was the 49th traffic fatality within the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Police Department this year.

Pilot dies in crash near Lake Tahoe Airport
A pilot has been killed in a small plane crash near Lake Tahoe Airport.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Mike Fergus said the Cessna 150 crashed shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday. The wreckage was found about 800 feet east of a runway.
Lt. Les Lovell of the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office said preliminary information indicates the pilot was trying to take off from the airport when the crash happened. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
The pilot's name was not immediately released.
AMTRAK DEATHS
Another person killed by a train in Oakland
Amtrak officials said another person has been killed by a train in Oakland, the third reported death in the area in the past three days.
The death on Sunday morning came after Amtrak officials reported two fatalities on Friday in Berkeley and Oakland.
Authorities say a 69-year-old woman died in the Berkeley incident, and Friday's Oakland victim was a 38-year-old man.
None of the victims have been identified.
Sunday's fatality occurred on the No. 11 Coast Starlight train, which travels from Seattle to Los Angeles. Friday's incident occurred on the Capital Corridor train.
No passengers were injured, and the incidents are being investigated by Amtrak and Union Pacific police.
