DIAMOND CARE DRIVE INCIDENT

Police officer who shot at suspect identified

The Las Vegas police officer who fired two shots at a suspect Friday night has been identified as Jason Swanbeck, 28.

The incident took place about 7 p.m. as officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress in the 6700 block of Diamond Care Drive, near Broadbent Boulevard and Boulder Highway.

Officers were setting up a perimeter around the house when a man opened the door, pointing what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun at the officers. Swanbeck fired twice, missing the suspect. The suspect did not fire back and went inside the house.

The suspect was then arrested and charged with aiming a firearm at a police officer.

Swanbeck has been with the Police Department since January 2006.

52-year-old female pedestrian killed

A female pedestrian crossing Tropicana Avenue was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver early Sunday.

Las Vegas police received a phone call around 3:45 a.m. reporting a body. Upon arrival, they found the 52-year-old woman in the eastbound lane of traffic, west of Jones Boulevard.
