SCHOOL BUS SHOOTING SUSPECT
18-year-old appears in separate shooting case
An 18-year-old accused of orchestrating a shooting last month at a school bus stop that left six people wounded made his first appearance in court in another shooting case.
Nicco Tatum appeared in Justice Court on charges he shot and wounded a 40-year-old Las Vegas woman, Tracy Beavers, on Dec. 5. A public defender was appointed for him, and a Jan. 23 evidentiary hearing was scheduled.
Tatum remains in custody without bail following his transfer last week from Denver, where he was arrested Dec. 12 after stepping off a Greyhound bus on the way to Chicago.
Tatum and three codefendants also face charges stemming from the Dec. 11 bus stop shooting at Walnut and Alexander roads.
SKATEBOARDER DIES
13-year-old boy hit, killed by GMC van
A 13-year-old Las Vegas boy was hit by a van and killed Monday after running into the street to retrieve his skateboard, police said.
Randall M. Lowe III died at University Medical Center shortly after the 5:35 p.m. accident on Las Vegas Boulevard south of Nellis Boulevard.
Randall was riding his skateboard while pushing a shopping cart along the road's shoulder with a friend when the board hit a rock and rolled into the northbound lanes. He ran after it and into the path of a 2003 GMC van, police said.
The van was driven by Antonio Rodriguez-Garay, 40, of North Las Vegas. The investigation was ongoing, but detectives said it appeared the teen was at fault.
Randall was a seventh-grader at Bailey Middle School.
