An 11-year-old girl was hit by a car and killed after she rode through a stop sign Saturday, Henderson police said.

The girl was riding east on Flintrock Road about 11 a.m. and failed to stop at the intersection with Whitney Ranch Drive, police said.

A 2006 Hyundai Elantra traveling south hit the girl, who was not wearing a helmet. She was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where she died.

The 57-year-old woman driving the car and her 7-year-old passenger were unhurt.

Police withheld the name of the girl.

LAS VEGAS WASH

Searchers find bodies of drowning victims

Authorities on Monday found the bodies of two men who were swept downstream in the Las Vegas Wash the day before.

The men disappeared Sunday afternoon while fishing near Northshore Road west of Lake Mead, the National Park Service said.

The first man was swept away after trying to cross the fast-moving water. His friend waded into the water to help and suffered the same fate, authorities said.

Searchers found the body of the second man, a 42-year-old, about 3 p.m. roughly a half mile downstream from where he disappeared. The first man's body was pulled from the water about 5 p.m.

The names of both men were withheld until family is notified.

POLICE SEEK GUNMAN

Convenience store shooting investigated

Las Vegas police were searching for a gunman who shot and killed another man early Monday outside a convenience store.

The shooting happened just after midnight in the parking lot of an Arco AM PM store at the intersection of Mountain Vista Street and Russell Road, police said.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a fight. The name of the victim was withheld Monday.

OUTSIDE A CROSSWALK

Woman struck, killed crossing street ID'd

A pedestrian who died after being hit by a car Thursday night in North Las Vegas was identified as Diane Marie Garcia, 49.

Garcia died at University Medical Center about three hours after the 10:25 p.m. collision on Lake Mead Boulevard just east of Las Vegas Boulevard, police said.

Garcia was crossing the street outside a marked crosswalk when she was struck, police said. The driver of a van slammed the brakes to avoid Garcia, but a 2005 Nissan in another lane couldn't avoid her, police said.

Police said the driver of the Nissan, Priscilla McGarci, 27, of Costa Mesa, Calif., would probably not be charged, but the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who might have witnessed the collision can leave anonymous tips with Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or call the lead investigator at 633-1017, Ext. 5031.

TWO-VEHICLE COLLISION

Man killed in traffic accident identified

A 19-year-old man killed in a Henderson car crash last week was identified as Austin Beau Hollingsworth.

The man was driving a Dodge van that investigators believe ran a red light on Lake Mead Parkway and hit a Chevrolet Impala heading north on Boulder Highway about 10:35 p.m.

Hollingsworth, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially thrown from the van as it rolled, police said.

The van's two passengers, a woman, 19, and a man, 18, were wearing seat belts and were not injured.

The 20-year-old driver of the Impala, Victor Armendariz, was not wearing a seat belt and was taken to St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Siena campus, for treatment.
