Inmate dies at Valley Hospital

A Nevada Department of Corrections inmate died Sunday after being hospitalized for a medical condition last week, prison officials said Tuesday.

Marin Lomas, 56, was admitted to Valley Hospital Medical Center for treatment of an undisclosed medical condition Friday and died two days later, officials said.

Lomas was sentenced to five years to life in prison for sexual assault and kidnapping in Washoe County and began serving time in 1992. He had been released several times on parole, according to officials.

Lomas last returned to prison in November after being arrested in North Las Vegas for possession of a controlled substance and failure to obey sex offender registration laws.

The Clark County coroner’s office will perform an autopsy, officials said.
