Threats of a lawsuit from The District at Green Valley Ranch in Henderson against The District at Commercial Center, 953 E. Sahara Ave., over use of the name "The District" seem to have fizzled.
American Nevada Holdings LCC, which developed and manages The District at Green Valley Ranch, has not responded to a letter from business owners at Commercial Center stating that the center planned to continue using The District name. Representatives of The District at Green Valley Ranch have declined to comment on the letter or the status of any lawsuit.
"I think they thought I was going to fold," Commercial Center Business Association President and founder Paula Sadler said. "When I really believe in something, I stick with it."
In July, American Nevada Holdings threatened to sue Commercial Center if it didn't stop using the name. Commercial Center has been using the name The District on its Web site and in advertising for 11⁄2 years.
In a letter dated July 31, which was obtained by the View, attorney Michael J. McCue, representing The District at Green Valley Ranch, urged Commercial Center to stop using the name The District and to change its Web site, www.thedistrictatcc.com, similar to The District at Green Valley Ranch's Web site at www.thedistrictatgvr.com, as of Aug. 15, or American Nevada Holdings would sue.
Commercial Center's attorney, David Zaniel of Reno, replied to The District at Green Valley Ranch in a letter dated Aug. 7, which was obtained by the View, saying that Commercial Center would not change its position.
