Lyon deputies seize 18 emaciated horses seized in Lyon County

YERINGTON - Lyon County sheriff's deputies have seized 18 emaciated horses from a nonprofit organization that billed itself as a horse rescue operation.

KOLO-TV reported the horses came from Frontier Ranch in Yerington, and its owners were cited on suspicion of animal cruelty. Established in 2004, the organization claimed to "rescue and replace horses as fast as possible."

Investigators say the property is in disarray and the 18 horses they seized were eating their own manure. Local farmers have donated hay to feed them.
