Man, 62, held in slaying of woman, 65

A 65-year-old North Las Vegas woman with "obvious physical injuries" was found dead Monday in a Deer Springs Way apartment complex.

According to a North Las Vegas police press release, 62-year-old Melvin Bailey was arrested at the scene after officers responded at 7:47 p.m. to an emergency call at 2566 E. Deer Springs Way, near Losee Road.

Police said that upon arrival, they discovered the woman, who was unresponsive.

Police could not confirm the relationship between Bailey and the dead woman but said they shared the apartment.

Bailey was booked into the North Las Vegas Detention Center on charges of murder with a deadly weapon.

As of Tuesday evening, the woman had not been identified by the Clark County coroner's office.

North Las Vegas police spokesman Tim Bedwell said Bailey wasn't the person who called police.

"A victim's relative was the caller," he said.

Bedwell said the case remains under investigation.
