A 28-year-old man was arrested earlier this week by Las Vegas police in connection with a slaying of a man shot on Mother's Day 2005.
According to arrest records, police detained Martin Mariscal-Perez on Sunday in the May, 8, 2005, shooting of Raymundo Torres. Torres died the following day from his injuries, according to a police report.
Mariscal-Perez is booked on various recommended charges including murder with a deadly weapon and one count each of assault and battery and carrying a concealed weapon. There is no bail on the murder charge.
The shooting occurred near a residence at 1668 George Place, near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Owens Avenue.
The police report said witnesses saw Mariscal-Perez pull a gun and shoot Torres at point-blank range in the cheek.
According to the report, Torres was with several other people outside a residence when he got into a dispute with Mariscal-Perez over a question he asked about Mariscal-Perez's brother.
Authorities did not indicate how and where Mariscal-Perez was arrested Sunday, nor how he eluded police.
Las Vegas homicide officials could not be reached for comment.
According to the report, Mariscal-Perez boasted to a witness and several others on a previous occasion "he had killed several people in other states and offered to kill anyone they wanted."
Mariscal-Perez and another man had arrived at the gathering to collect money from someone at the party, the report said. They fled after the shooting.
Mariscal-Perez is slated to make his next appearance in court Thursday.
