Man arrested in mother’s stabbing death

Las Vegas police on Wednesday night arrested a 27-year-old man suspected of stabbing his mother to death in their southwest valley home.

Garrick Kenneth Brown is being held at the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of murder with a deadly weapon and an outstanding warrant for domestic violence battery with substantial bodily harm.

Police said Brown’s mother called police from their home about 10 a.m. claiming that her mentally ill son had attacked her.

When police arrived, they found the woman on the floor. She was taken to University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

The Clark County coroner’s office on Wednesday identified the woman as 61-year-old Raymarie Geraldine Brown of Las Vegas.

The suspect wasn't at the home on the 6300 block of Haleh Avenue, near Jones Boulevard and Blue Diamond Road, when police arrived.

Police had been called to the home nine times in the past year before the homicide. Five of those calls were for family disturbances.

Garrick Brown has an extensive criminal history with Las Vegas police, including drug possession arrests, domestic violence battery arrests and an arrest on a charge of battery on a police officer, according to police.
