The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of human remains found just northwest of Phoenix.

According to the Wittmann Fire Department, a family was celebrating Easter Sunday just south of Carefree Highway. The father was walking through a burned-out house and found a human skull.

The sheriff’s office said the man went to the fire department with the skull on Sunday night.

According to Doug Matteson of the sheriff’s office, detectives found the partial human remains in an old abandoned shed.

MCSO said homicide detectives are still investigating the Whispering Ranch property and looking for more bones.

It’s unclear if the skull was male or female.
